Healthy DietSeeing obese persons has now become a common feature. Every other person is overweight, if not obese. Besides making a person look ungainly, obesity affects a person adversely, posing severe health hazards. There are various reasons for obesity; however, there are no advantages to being obese, only disadvantages.

If you are obese and you want to lose that extra body fat, a perfect diet is essential. A diet that is chalked out considering your age, gender, fat percentage and body weight would be a perfect diet. Visit a dietician, who is an expert in this field and share with him/her your eating habits and lifestyle. Here are a few tips on how you can start with a fat-loss program, which you could follow yourself.

Make a list of dishes that you eat throughout the day for a week. After that, make a note of fatty food that you consume. Consult a dietician to know what contains fat and what is nutritious. Eliminate those items from your list that generate unnecessary fats in your body. If those items are your favorites, reduce their consumption to start with. If you are one of those, who overeat, then you need to have plenty of water just before you start your meal and if you feel hungry after every 2 hours, then try having salads or fruits, and not bananas. There is nothing better than a fruit and vegetable diet. Some of the best foods are boiled vegetables, fruit salads, vegetable salads, etc., which supply vitamins and minerals for the body and make you fit.

Breakfast being your first meal of the day should be at about 7 am and must be heavy and nutritious. Lunch should be a little light at about 1 pm and your dinner has to be bare minimum by 7pm. Eating healthy meals on time is necessary for fat loss. Always follow the saying, “eat your breakfast alone, share your lunch with friends and give your dinner to your enemy”.

Reduce alcohol, aerated drinks, sweets, chocolates, oily foods, and other fattening edibles drastically. They contribute a lot to obesity. Overeating and continuous eating also adds to obesity. Obesity is one of the causes for cardiac arrests in many people. Therefore eat healthy, exercise well and beat obesity.

Americans as a nation eat too much fat, more so the saturated variety, which is bad. These fats have their foundation in food based in animal resources like eggs, meat, cheese, and all diary produce. The fast food chains have all played their part in increasing our fat intake more than the daily-recommended limits.

On the other side, Americans only consume about half the necessary fibre of approx. 25 grams a day. Soluble fibre mostly found in nuts, whole grains, legumes, certain fruits, and vegetables dissolves in the stomach and assists in binding and clearing out cholesterol.

Insoluble fibre found in seed and nuts, vegetables, cereal with whole grain, fruits, and seed bearing plants also keeps the bowels moving thus preventing constipation and resulting haemorrhoids and decreases the danger posed by colorectal cancer.

What is the Ideal Diet?

A healthy diet should achieve all of the following objectives:

  1. It should have sufficient calories to maintain one’s metabolic needs and to power you through whatever activities you undertake. However, the number of calories should not be so high that it causes your body to begin storing excess amounts of fat. Stored fat should never be more than 30% of your body mass.
  2. A good diet should have sufficient quantities of fat including monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and saturated fat. This should be balanced by omega 6 and omega 3 lipids.
  3. It should also avoid saturated fats as much as possible, as well as trans-fats or trans-fatty acids as they are sometimes known.
  4. A good diet should also include a significant amount of amino acids (which are complete proteins). This provides replenishment to your cells and transports proteins throughout your body. All the essential amino acids are present in both animal and plant protein.
  5. There must be complete avoidance of directly poisonous substances such as heavy metals and carcinogenic substances.

One should also avoid high doses of certain foods that may be alright in small doses but not in large doses, such as:

  1. Food or substances with directly toxic properties such as ethyl alcohol.
  2. Foods that could exhaust the normal functions of the body such as eating refined carbohydrates that need extra dietary fiber to be digested.
  3. Foods that could interfere with other body processes, such as refined table salt.

Eating nutritiously is needed to maintain steady health and energy. By eating the correct food in the right amount, you’ll be able to function at higher levels in your daily activities. By knowing the types of energy available in various foods, you’ll be able to know what you need to eat.

There are various ways energy is distributed in our bodies. By maintaining balance among these kinds of energy, you’ll be able to feel better everyday. In order to maintain balance, you need to eat right.

The first type of energy distribution is through calories. These are units of energy found in every food item. Protein, carbohydrates and fat all contain these calories in them. As they carry the highest amounts of energy, they are our major source of energy. If you have excess of any of these energy sources, the energy will be stored and will cause weight gain instead of balance.

Energy can also be maintained through the vitamins and minerals that are a part of your food sources.  For example, vitamin B, in all of its forms, provides for energy to move into the metabolism, which speeds up processing of other nutrients and foods.  By knowing the vitamins that contain the right amounts of energy, you will be able to keep a balance in your eating habits.

Two major problems that we need to be aware of is not having enough of any of the above mentioned sources or having too much of one of these sources.  These problems will cause the extra energy to be moved into an area in the body where it can be stored.  This will eventually turn into extra weight and cause imbalances and health problems in your body.

In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, it is important to create a menu that provides the right amounts of energy to your body. Living a balanced lifestyle through healthy and nutritious eating is a major step in being able to live a healthy and energetic life.
