1. FitFlop midsoles give you a workout while you walk. This was developed by Darren James and Dr David Cook at LSBU. FitFlop’s unique safely tapered midsole places varying densities of EVA under your feet at each step you make. This will challenge the support and balance muscles of your foot and leg.
2. They challenge hard to reach muscles more. FitFlop’s multi-density midsole stimulates your muscles more while you’re wearing them. FitFlops have been shown to trigger increase gluteal muscle response, increased hamstring response, increase rectus femoris (thigh) response and increased calf muscle response.
3. Studies by Dr. Philip Graham-Smith and Richard Jonesat at Salford University have shown that the amount of time that the slow twitch muscles are engaged during each step are extended by 10=12% by the FitFlop midsole. This means that when you wear a pair of FitFlops, you’ll get more exercise while doing just exactly what you’re normally doing. So every step you take with your FitFlops helps to tone and trim your legs.
4. FitFlops work your bum muscles more. FitFlops have been clinically proven to increase the amount of time that the gluteus maximus muscle is ‘activated’ during every single step.
5. FitFlops have been shown to have a significant effect on the toning muscles of your thighs: The rectus femoris muscle (one of the large muscles in the group of muscles in your thigh) is activated for a longer period of time while walking in FitFlops than while normally shod or barefoot.
6. Walking in FitFlops is like walking barefoot, but a little bit better. According to a study done at the University of Salford in Manchester, UK, the FitFlop wearer’s gait is very similar to that of a barefoot walker. However, the EVA midsole provides the added cushion to help reduce joint strain and absorb shock. This could result in relief from back pain after a few days of wearing them.
7. It easier to stay in shape with FitFlops. Just throw them on while you’re running errands, walking to work, or working around your house. You’ll feel that your muscles are working more while at the same time you’ll experience greater comfort with the cushion.

Running has been associated with a reduction in death and disability. This was reported in the August 11/25, 2008 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine. The study was conducted over a 21 year period.
Eliza F. Chakravarty, MD, MS, and colleagues at Stanford University School of Medicine started the study in 1984 by mailing questionnaires to a group of runners and a healthy control group who were both aged 50 and older. The questionnaires concerned exercise frequency, disability level and body mass index. The groups completed these questionnaires yearly through 2005.
At the end of the study, data were available for 284 runners and 156 controls. From the National death records, it was confirmed that 34 percent of the controls and 15 percent of the runners had died after 19 years. These people died from various causes such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, neurological disease, and other causes. The deaths occurred earlier among the control group. Although disability in both groups increased over time, there was less disability among runners throughout the period. Senior author James Fries, MD, who is an emeritus professor of medicine at Stanford School of Medicine noted that runners’ initial disability was 16 years later than nonrunners. This shows that by and large, the runners have stayed healthier indicating that the health benefits of exercise are greater than was thought.
The researchers attribute the benefits observed among the runners to increased cardiovascular fitness and improved aerobic capacity, greater bone mass, lower levels of inflammation, improved vaccination response, and better cognitive function associated with regular, vigorous exercise.
Another observation was also reported in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. A greater incidence of arthritis has not been associated with running.
“The study has a very pro-exercise message,” Dr Fries concluded. “If you had to pick one thing to make people healthier as they age, it would be aerobic exercise.”
